My Weekly Addiction

Glee

This is one majorly overdue post. But better late than ever. This week I'm completely hooked on Glee. Being in the UK I have to suffer the fact that we're weeks behind our American friends. However to focus on the positive season two is in full swing and so far I'm certainly still a fan. I can always rely on it to make me smile. Once a week I set aside an hour of my day for the simple pleasure that is glee and I'm never disappointed. From the first moment that this group of quirky kids started to sing Don't stop Believin' I was in love. Its so great to see what a tight knit family they have become. At the core of the show is a group of outsiders who have finally found a place where they can be themselves, regardless of who that me be. What with all this, a great cast, fabulously cheesy soundtrack and of course Jane Lynch. What more could a person ask for.

I also think a special shout out should go to Chris Colfer for his Golden Globe acceptance speech. It firmly established what this show is really all about.

Wednesday 26 January 2011

Ok, so here it is. I've been bad, I've neglected my blog and my fanfiction and generally all word related hobbies of mine. Its not because I don't enjoy them and it's not because they bore me it's simply because I have a tendency to become fickle in my free time and I get distracted by shiny things. Well not shiny things so much as dvds and books. But hey you get what I mean. So this is it, this is my apology. I'm going to try to be better and behave like a good little blogger. I've had the ideas so I'm even going to try and back date some of my posts. Since I'm not even sure if anyone will read this I'll leave it there and say once again, sorry.

Over and Out.

My Leading Lady

Abby Sciuto/Pauley Perrette

Now don't get me wrong I love Kate but there really is only one woman for me when it comes to NCIS and that has to be Abby. For the simple fact that she is who she is. She's so unique and complex and yet really simple at the same time. She seems to be permanently happy, although that could be down to the copious amount of caffeine she consumes. Who knows. Anyways she never tries to hide who she and why should she. Now not many people can pull off the whole goth look post-teen years but she does and she does it with a flair. I guess there something about the colour black and tattoos that has a certain pull over my attention. But what keeps her at the top of the pile is her brains, she's got the smarts, and she knows how to use them. I mean after watching what she can do with a computer I'd be quite happy do whatever she asked. She's got the ability to make me smile just by appearing on the screen.

My Weekly Addiction

NCIS

One of the things I love about my new job is that I'm surrounded by people who are a lot like me in the sense that they are all almost as addicted to dvds as I am. As a result, a whole new world of show has been opened up to me. The latest of which is the one and only NCIS. I'd heard about it, but never actually got around to watching it. Boy was that a mistake. I know I say this a lot but I quickly got hooked. I like almost every aspect of the show, even the parts that annoy me because it shows what good writing and acting are involved. For example the character of DiNozzo really irritates me with his chauvinistic male ego crap, and yet he can make me laugh at the same time. It kind of amazing. The whole team have this utterly bizzare relationship, the way they bicker and fight and yet you can see the genuine care they have for one another. Its fascinating to watch the individual relationships each of the team have with Gibbs. Ducky the age old friendship, Abby the bantering kin-like, DiNozzo the kiss ass, McGee the faithful employee and Kate, well I can quite think of a phrase to describe her and Gibbs's relationship. Overall each and everyone one of them respects him deeply. Its a captivating and fast-paced detective show that makes you sit up a pay attention in the best possible way.

My Leading Lady

Wilhelmina Slater/Vanessa Williams

Ok let me start by saying that I know I shouldn't be totally in love with Wilhelmina since she's the bad guy, well girl, but I sooo am. In fact her bad-ass attitude only adds to her appeal. There's something about a bitch in killer Prada that pushes certain buttons for me. I dont think I've every seen anyone who can pull of every move with such grace and power. I get the general impression that if she walked by I'd have to fight an overwhelming urge to fall at her feet and offer my eternal servitude. She just has this air of dominance about her but not in a way that makes you resent her. Its a fascinating combination. Of course I think the whole supremacy thing can only be helped by the fact that she is breathtakingly beautiful.

My Weekly Addiction

Ugly Betty

I must have been one of the only people who didn't get swept up in the phenomena that was Ugly Betty. In fact until a week ago I hadn't seen a single episode. But I definitely got caught up in the second wave. I saw one episode repeat and I was hooked. Since then I've watched the entire 1st season and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 2nd season on dvd. I just love it, I've always been a fan of quirky shows and love any show that revolves around an outsider succeeding. I guess its my inner geek screaming for some satisfaction and boy was its pleas answered in the form of this show. As we see Betty struggling to overcome the fashion industry's hatred of all thing not perfect you cant help but give a little cheer when ever she succeeds. Another reason this show has won my heart lies with my general love for all power-tripping bad girls. What can I say I, it's my thing.

My Leading Lady

Pam De Beaufort/Kristin Bauer

Now I know I said I was spoilt for choice when it came to ladies on True Blood but lets face it there is one ultimate vamp on the show and that is the one and only Pam De Beaufort. Everything about her is outstanding. From her hair and wardrobe to her attitude and taste in women. She vicious, lazy and selfish but she also fiercely loyal and despite her protests she does care. She's a bizzare creature who really is a devil in sheep's clothing. I mean lets face it she said it her self, even though she wears a lot of pink she can rip your throat out. Another appeal about Pam is she looks utterly fabulous in everything she wears, whether its the Gothic Fangtasia get-up, my personal favourite, or her preferred pastels she is drop, emphasis on the dead, gorgeous. I mean she even looked sensational mid-torture; then again that could be partially down to the semi-nakedness, she even kept up her razor sharp sarcasm, now that's my kinda girl. She can bite me anytime.

My Weekly Addiction

True Blood

I'm a sucker for a bit of fang. I just can't help it, as much as I hate to become a sheep, following the trends and latest fad. Vampires seem to be one of my weaknesses. Another of those weaknesses is hot women so having a show that combines the two is a dream come true. Even better I'm fairly the gay outweigh the straight. I definitely prefer the vamps to the human in this show but then its a well know fact that I like a little bad-ass behaviour from my ladies. What with Pam, Jessica and Queen Sophie-Anne to choose from I'm spoilt for choice, then again who said I have 2 choose. I started reading the books before I watched the show and I gotta say I love both as separate things. I'm not one to compare adaptations, that way I'm not disappointed. I think one of the things that I like about the show is that it is so trashy but in an utterly fabulous way. Its so bad its good. You get hooked on the story lines and the characters. Also I gotta admit I kind of admire the fact that there's a distinct lack of censorship, because sometimes "oh bother" just isn't quite sufficient. Sometimes a situation requires a good "fuck". In every meaning of the word.
